BONUS BOOSTER

What’s the secret ingredient to boost your child’s reading ability? At home, it’s about growing the support team around them.

Think of your ‘fictive kin’ (the extended group of adults like friends, neighbours, caregivers, family) and ask them to be involved too. Ask a grandparent to take your kiddo to the local library on the regular, think weekly/fortnightly/monthly. Ask a neighbour to post a note in your letterbox with a short note for your kiddo to read, a sentence is plenty! Invite a friend to play a phonemic awareness rhyming game over FaceTime. We’ve got more literacy game ideas in our Essentials Membership.

Sprinkle interest and time into those shared literacy experiences, no matter how much, each day. The cumulative effect of a minute each day is like, well, much more than zero minutes a day!
